We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the Employee Owned Innovation of the Year category of the UK Employee Ownership Awards 2017.
Our innovation is 'BIMspace' - a collaborative meeting space where a large multi-screen set-up brings multiple data sets in front of decision makers, enabling them to make better informed decisions and streamlining the design and construction process.
Construction at present has never been more exciting or more challenging for us as an architectural practice. To optimise design, designers and constructors must work together as never before. BIM (Building Information Modelling) is a method of work which is helping the construction industry do that.
BIMspace was the outcome of a research project, led by us and supported by Innovate UK under the call 'Rethinking the Build Process'. Our starting point was that immersive visualisation techniques that have greatly benefited the automotive industry could be refined and transferred at a lower cost point to the construction industry.
Our innovation has been tested on live projects, including the National Automotive Innovation Centre at the University of Warwick - a complex project design using BIM from the outset. With the building now nearing completion, the BIMspace on site has been embraced as a powerful tool, supporting collaborative and smart working between designers, the main contractor and their supply chain.
The UK Employee Ownership Awards celebrate the significant contribution Employee Owned businesses (of which we are one) make to the UK economy. The awards recognise the productivity, innovation and excellence driven by teams and individuals, which demonstrate how employees having a stake in the business teamed with a robust culture of transparency and employee engagement result in outstanding performance in growth and resilience.
We look forward to hearing the winners announced at the annual Employee Ownership Association conference on 27th November.
