As part of a regeneration scheme which has transformed a notorious run-down housing estate in north west London, Spring creates a well-connected and well-serviced neighbourhood woven into the adjacent streets. A strong pedestrian link now connects the north and south areas of the wider estate, providing better connections between community facilities in the area.
Spring's landscape has been designed to flow through the scheme, linking Fawood Park to the north and a wooded park to the south with a new central garden. A canal feeder has been uncovered and diverted to run through the heart of Spring, providing an attractive focus for the garden and an area where wildlife flourishes.
Careful attention to scale, massing and orientation, and the integration of landscaping, places as much importance on the high-quality public and community spaces created as on the buildings themselves.
Extensive public consultation with resident groups and the local community has been a hallmark of the Stonebridge Estate Regeneration. Spring's neighbour, the Hillside Hub, was awarded a Special Civic Trust Award in 2011 for Community Impact & Engagement.
