Crookham Junior School
Crookham Junior School was built in the 1960s. Following our experience at Calthorpe Park School, another 1960s Hampshire school, and extensive energy modelling by the University of Wales, we developed the idea of shading and sheltering by adding highly insulated shutters. These shutters could be closed off at the end of the day, reducing heat loss overnight.
Rooflights, with rotating shutters, were fitted to bring light to the very back of the upper floor classrooms.
