A new Edinburgh crescent with a mix of offices, residential apartments and a 200-bed hotel. 

Morrison Street Goods Yard

Our competition scheme for Argent was for the mixed-use redevelopment of a disused goods yard above Haymarket Station in Edinburgh.

We proposed a new Edinburgh Crescent in the centre of the 11 acre site on the axis of Grosvenor Street. By moving the new link road slightly south from the existing we were able to provide four self-contained office sites, adding hugely to the value of the project. 

The crescent was organised with a level base, naturally ventilated car parking and level projecting eaves, with four office floors on one side and six residential floors on the other. The residential side morphed into a 200-bed hotel as the ground fell away to the Haymarket to create a 9-storey western portal to the city.

We were able to provide 316 apartments and houses, 306,000sq ft of offices, 2.8 acres of public open space with a rich 1% for an art performance programme of crafts, studios and festivals. The Cockburn Society and the Scottish Fine Arts Commission consistently supported our proposals.
