James Fray

Architectural Assistant

James finds delight in exploring the context of a place, both natural and man-made, stemming from his enthusiasm for historical learning. Since joining Cullinan Studio in 2019 he has mainly worked on the Black Country and Marches Institute of Technology, as well as a variety of competition bids exploring the future of learning. James is currently working on the ‘Friday Talks’ team encouraging the sharing and development of knowledge within the office.

In his Part 1 study at the University of Nottingham, James’ interest in artificial intelligence (AI) led him to design his RIBA Bronze Medal nominated project, ‘The AI Bureau’, which focused on rejuvenating Coventry through an integration between AI and the city. The project explored his passion for creating positive, safe and enjoyable public spaces.

Aside from architecture James has run/thrown/caught in most sports from Gaelic football to cycling and is an avid music listener (and less avid guitarist…)!
