The inspirational founder of our practice was a true pathfinder for all architects. Ted was designing for climate change 60 years ago with a holistic vision for the practice of architecture that he described as a social act. His legacy is in the buildings and places he transformed, in his model of architectural practice, but perhaps most powerfully in the thousands of people he taught and inspired throughout his long life.
Ted studied at the University of Cambridge, the Architectural Association and Berkeley. He was awarded a CBE in 1987 for Services to Architecture, elected a Royal Academician in 1989, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland in 1995. In 2005, he was awarded a Special Commendation by the Prince Philip Designers Prize for his outstanding lifetime achievement in design, in 2008 he was awarded the RIBA Royal Gold Medal and in 2010 he was made a Royal Designer for Industry by the RSA.
Ted established our office as a co-operative in 1965 and his tenacious commitment in striving for excellence in design continues to inspire our practice.
