Founded in 1965 as a co-operative, we are the original collaborators and co-designers. We have a wealth of experience in creating innovative buildings that achieve client goals and connect with communities and the natural world.

We are a team of designers, makers, planners, and academics. Based in London and Nottingham, we have collaborated with private and public clients on award-winning projects across the world, including universities, hospitals, and homes.

DESIGN WITH NATURE

A belief in the power of nature is central to our practice. We embrace natural systems and innovative, sustainable technologies to benefit clients, stakeholders, and planet.

A strong connection to the living world is fundamental to the healthiness of a place and the well-being of its inhabitants. Our buildings are sensitive to their local environments, incorporating natural materials and renewable energy sources, as well as daylight, fresh air, and green spaces.

The world faces unprecedented challenges, but our experience and ethos teaches us to meet them with creativity and optimism.

OUR HISTORY

Founded on ideas about ecology, sustainability and social responsiveness.

Edward Cullinan Architects was established by Edward (Ted) Cullinan in 1965, who was an early proponent of sustainability and social awareness and a former colleague of Denys Lasdun.

We began life as a cooperative and continue to have a strong culture of shared learning, open innovation and the design of buildings as a ‘social act’.

In 2012, Edward Cullinan Architects became Cullinan Studio. Our London home is a former foundry on Regent’s Canal, which we retrofitted to the highest environmental standards, and in 2020 we opened a second studio in Nottingham. We remain an employee-owned practice, sharing the belief that we were never meant to change the world alone. We can do better together.
