Louise Laslett
Partner
As Document Controller at Cullinan Studio, Louise oversees the information exchange for many projects at one time. The role massively appeals to her love of all things organisational and she is committed to the cause of ensuring a project is well structured.
Having worked in a non-construction sector previously, she has found the move to an architectural environment incredibly rewarding. The studio has provided a supportive space for her to flourish as a partner, adding value by supporting the responsible business programme, which in turn has benefited the local community.
The studio’s holistic approach to architecture in collaboration with nature through responsible design, resonates with her own personal values.
As a committed commuter travelling many hours in a week, her weekends are precious and the opportunity to re-connect with nature is hugely important to her. This time is spent in the woods or commons of home, stumbling across interesting insects and identifying ancient trees.
Studio Experience
Community & Friendship
The local area and community surrounding our studio have given us so much to be grateful for. We all fully enjoy the location we work in and reap the benefits of the amenities such as the canal towpath for lunchtime walks, local eateries for our midday nibbles and the abundant pubs for evening socialising. We are so lucky to have such an inviting space for all our guests, both inside and out, that is why it is so important to engage with our fellow community to say thank you. Through partnerships and volunteering we are engaging with the local area to create meaningful relationships and offering valuable skills and support. Alongside my colleagues, I have been involved in creating these exchanges and hope that the recipients find them just as rewarding as we all do here at the studio.
Studio Greening
In a previous work-life I was involved with homeware product buying and sourcing, this came about through my choice of degree and a deep affection for all things textile and material. I find myself here at Cullinan Studio in an entirely different role, one in which I thankfully still have the freedom to flex my inner stylist muscle and be creative in any way possible that benefits the studio and the team. I have particularly enjoyed making the office a little more oxygen heavy this year, greening up the space with plants and working with the team at the studio to cultivate baby plants from their parents. It’s become increasingly clear that plants help to create a more stable, less-stressful environment to work in, they filter toxins in the workplace so make for cleaner, more breathable air.
Extra-curricular Cullinan’s
It is fair to say that we all really enjoy a bit of creativity here at the studio. Some of us are not architects but we all seem to have a common interest in making or designing things. It is great to be surrounded by like-minded people and good that we consider our collective wellbeing. After a packed week of work, it is nice to be a bit ‘mindful’ and lose yourself sketching an interesting composition, or fling some soil around making bottle plant terrariums. We share skills with sociable crafting gatherings, learning how to make pom-poms and origami nights and the like. I am a firm believer that extra-curricular creative acts influence and inspire us in our daily activities. It’s also a great way to catch up on the week, before we disappear off for the weekend.
