Richard Pulford
Partner
Richard is the lead of our Midlands studio, an exciting initiative which is allowing us to build on the strength of completed and current projects we have across the region.
Richard loves being a project architect. He fundamentally believes architecture enriches the fabric of our lives, should be for all and is optimistic that a lot can be achieved with very little, by making the right strategic decisions and focussing on necessity, whilst instilling delight.
A passion for fair and equitable ways of doing things is what attracted Richard to Cullinan Studio; enjoying a voice within the collective, and its ethical approach to commercial practice.
Richard is energised by collaboration with clients and design teams alike and the process of collectively nurturing architecture into being. He brings an intellectual rigour and analytical process to projects, ensuring design solutions are not pre-determined, but contextual responses that focus on the integration of high quality and sustainable design.
Heavily involved in architectural education at the University of Nottingham, Richard reaps the rewards from the cross fertilisation of ideas and opportunities between academic teaching and his work in the Studio.
His teaching focuses on passive environmental & biophilic design, urban planning of post-war new towns and supporting practice-based research.
Project Experience
Open for business in the Midlands
Richard, who originates from Nottingham, is leading our new permanent presence in the Midlands.
“We feel the time is right to make a commitment to the Midlands, as a strong and diverse centre for enterprise and culture. We are excited about the opportunities a regional office will offer us, both in enhanced continuity of service to our existing clients and the ability to grow our network of new clients and collaborators.”
IPI, not PII – A new approach to procurement
Richard is currently part of the integrated team developing the Institute of Transformational Technologies (IoTT) Dudley. It is the third project in the UK to be delivered under the innovative Integrated Project Insurance (IPI) approach - one of the preferred, alternative procurement models outlined in the government construction strategy 2011-2015.
An IPI contract ensures collaborative working, with all members of the integrated project team selected at the project’s inception to form an interdisciplinary ‘alliance board,’ with all members insured together under a single loss-based insurance policy.
“The town I would like to live in…”
Our National Saturday Club Masterclass challenged students from both the Greater Brighton Metropolitan, and Cranford Community Colleges to work together in questioning and re-imagining the spaces and places in which we live.
The result, a visually striking collage created in our studio focused on enriching urban life with improved connections to nature.
